There are two ways to do a paper-based-thesis

Under the new Thesis Regulation dated December 3, 2012, there are two possible ways of applying for the opening of a doctoral procedure in the form of a publication doctorate.

1. At least three original, peer-reviewed publications collectively regarded as being equivalent, with the candidate being the first author of at least one of the publications in relevant professional journals.

In case of doubt, the Thesis Commission shall decide on the recognition of the professional journal in question. The Thesis Commission shall decide on the recognition of co-authored publications that have already been used in another doctoral procedure.
