If you are pursuing the PhD or MD/PhD degrees and do not intend to do so within the framework of a doctoral program or a graduate college, you can apply for a PhD or MD/PhD place from 15. January 2024 until 15. February 2024, 12.00 noon.
Please note that you must submit your complete application documents both as a PDF by e-mail and in paper form by the deadline! The receipt stamp of the doctoral office is valid
The number of places per year or semester is limited: The places are allocated by the Doctoral Committee within the scope of a selection procedure. Please submit your applications to the Office for Doctoral Studies.
Please note: If you have already been accepted to a structured program for doctoral degree candidates aiming for a PhD or MD/PhD within the scope of a selection procedure, i.e. for instance in a doctoral program, a graduate school (for which the Charité acts as spokesperson) or a Marie-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network (ITN), you do not need to apply for participation in the selection procedure conducted by the Doctoral Committee. If you have applied nevertheless, please notify us immediately, specifying the relevant contact person if you have been accepted for an ITN.

How to apply with a university degree
Have you already obtained a university degree? Then please submit your application, together with the following documents as hard copies - addressed to Promotionsbüro, Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Augustenburger Platz 1, 13353 Berlin - and by electronic means, as a single PDF file by email to promotionsbuero(at)charite.de:

- Application for the selection process with a deadline of DD.MM.YYYY
- Statement on whether you are already registered in accordance with the Doctoral Degree Regulations of 2012 or 2017 and whether you have already applied within the scope of a previous selection procedure - Fully completed Doctorate Agreement for PhD/MD PhD with original signatures of all three supervisors
- Exposé, to be signed by you and your supervisors. For detailed information on this, click here.
- Course schedule including a timetable, in which you set out which courses you want to attend to obtain 30 ECTS credit points: Please also consider the provisions of the curriculum. It is sufficient to simply roughly outline the categories from the curriculum or use meaningful keywords in your course schedule. Please also coordinate the preparation of your course schedule with your supervisors
- Declaration on the financing of the doctoral project
- CV and where applicable a list of publications
- Certificate attesting
- the licensing examination in medicine or dentistry or
- a Bachelor's degree/certificate and Master's degree/certificate with the overview of the ECTS-points or equivalent in a subject relevant to the topic of the doctorate or
- a Bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to the topic of the doctorate: Please note that in such cases you will have to complete an Aptitude Assessment Test before submitting your application.
How to apply without a university degree
If you are enrolled at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin for medicine or dentistry, and have at least completed the sixth semester, you can usually also apply. In this case, submit your application, together with the following documents as hard copies - addressed to Promotionsbüro, Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Augustenburger Platz 1, 13353 Berlin - and by electronic means, as a single PDF file by email to promotionsbuero(at)charite.de:

- Letter of recommendation from a university professor or lecturer, referring to your special aptitude to pursue a doctorate on the Advanced Track
- Detailed explanation regarding why you want to start on the doctoral project during the course of the degree programme
- Statement of how you intend to coordinate the degree programme and the doctorate
