Here the heads behind the conference introduce themselves. The members of the planning team consisting of early career researchers are responsible for the conceptional design and content. The members of the Graduate Studies Support team are responsible for the organisational management and coordination.

Jelena Brasanac (she/her)
PhD student in Medical Neurosciences
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Jelena is doing her PhD in Medical Neurosciences at the Charite Universitatsmedizin Berlin. She is passionate about improving the life and career of PhD candidates. She believes that giving the voice to and empowering early career researchers will lead to better and more credible science as well as the cultural shift in academia towards a more open, inclusive, and supportive environment. She is also on a quest for cultivating mental health in academia within the Dragonfly Mental Health, a non-profit she co-founded.
Ana Sofia Oliveira Gonçalves (she/her)
PhD student in Health Data Sciences
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Sofia is a PhD student in Health Data Sciences at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Since she first heard about the book “Bad Pharma: How Drug Companies Mislead Doctors and Harm Patients”, she became interested in open science. She has working experience in different fields, from economics to epidemiology. Thus, she is interested in bringing together knowledge from different disciplines towards the same goal: good science.
Rico Haas (he/his)
Master’s student in Psychology

Currently finishing his MSc in psychology at HU Berlin, Rico has been passionate about Open Science and good research practice since his early undergrads when he first came into contact with questionable ways research often is conducted. Disappointed with the lack of integrity, credibility and methodological soundness, and shocked by the replication crisis in psychology and the biomedical sciences, he developed an interest in meta-science, philosophy of statistics and science, and reproducibility. In his eyes, methodological reform and a more collaborative approach to research are essential for scientific progress and to ensure public trust in science.
Corinna Hartling (she/her)
PhD student in psychiatry
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
was passionate about candidate gene studies in psychiatry until it basically all turned out to be an over-hyped p-hacked bubble of false positives. Now she is passionate about Open Science. She’s a PhD student in psychiatry at Charité CBF and a psychotherapist in training.
Majed Kikhia (he/his)
PhD student in Medical Neurosciences
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Majed is a PhD candidate for Medical Neuroscience at the Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He moved from medicine to science, looking for an ideal world where nothing is more valuable than the Truth. However, it did not take him long to discover that reality is so far from his idealistic - and naive - assumption. Majed is still hoping that values such as scientific integrity, transparency, and Truth do not only belong to philosophy classes but also to the daily scientific practice in the lab. He hopes that this conference will bring people who share similar beliefs together, merge their forces, and catalyze a change.
Eva Matthaei (she/her)
PhD student at the School of Business & Economics
Freie Universität Berlin
Trying to set foot in a small research community in between disciplines, Eva is currently writing her doctoral thesis in behavioral taxation. Coming from the field of business administration, Eva has always been passionate about interdisciplinary research. However, she was quickly disillusioned by the isolation of PhD candidates and the lack of interdisciplinary connection in the research practice. By joining the ECR conference organization team, Eva wants to move further in building interdisciplinary networks for PhD students and encouraging ECRs to engage in an active exchange.
Dr. Ulf Tölch (he/his) Consultative function
Project leader Education, Training & Quality in Research
Berlin Institute of Health
Ulf is project leader at the BIH QUEST Center for Education and Quality in science.
He investigates reproducibility in preclinical settings and teaches courses on research transparency.
Nicole Bornheim-Gallmeister (she/her)
Referentin Graduate Studies Support
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Nicole completed her doctor’s degree in the field of organizational studies. She is passionate about creating good work environments as an important basis for the promotion of employees’ health and well-being. As Referentin for Graduate Studies Support at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin she organizes a qualification program for doctoral candidates within the Berlin University Alliance and supports doctoral researchers in developing their academic careers.
Linn-Maria Filous (she/her)
Student Assistant Graduate Studies Support
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin
Linn works at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in in the area of central faculty affairs and Graduate Studies Support. The later builds the intersection to the Berlin University Alliance. In aiming to create a symbiosis and shared research environment for PhD students within the different partner universities, together with Dr. Nicole Bornheim-Gallmeister, she conceptualizes inter-disciplinary formats for doctoral students particularly. She is based at the University of the Arts and is especially interested in the combination of science and art.
